#RollingwoodCares (Central Texas Floods) Community Efforts: Please Join Us

#RollingwoodCares is a temporary grass-roots effort aiming to increase coordination and communication amongst our various Rollingwood community organizations, as we respond to the Central Texas Floods.

The City of Rollingwood, The Rollingwood Women’s Club, The Rollingwood Gentlemen’s Club, the Rollingwood Neighborhood Association and the Western Hills Athletic Club/Rollingwood Waves have joined forces to create a plan for our community to work together and focus our efforts across 4 areas in support of the Austin Disaster Relief Network:  Financial Donations, Goods & Materials Drive,  "Boots on the Ground" Clean-Up Day, and a "Kids Care" Drive/Community Bake Sale & Lemonade Stand.

While there are many great organizations helping out with flood aftermath, #RollingwoodCares has chosen to partner with Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) for 3 reasons:  They are a local organization, 90% of funds go directly to those in need in the form of gift cards, any excess funds will stay in Central Texas.

Please join the Rollingwood community in one (or all) of the following efforts we are coordinating to support the ADRN and those affected by the Memorial Weekend Floods. You can also find this information at: http://www.rollingwoodcares.com

RWC Meeting Minute March 24, 2015

RWC Meeting Minute March 24, 2015, 7:00pm
Andrea Sparks from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children Presented

At Rollingwood City Hall.

The president, Marissa Mireur called the meeting to order. The secretary, Kelly Dixon, summarized the previous meeting’s notes.

Catherine Scott makes a motion to accept the minutes. Minutes pass unanimously.

The treasurer, Marilyn Kounnas, reported that she has issued all approved checks except for the $900 requested to replace the Dino, the aging playground equipment dinosaur and $500 for the Little Library at the park. As of March 23, 2015 there is a balance $13,147.56 in the RWC account.

The next RWC meeting will be April 21 at 7:00pm at City Hall. Image Colorist & Stylist John LeFabvre.

Roseann Ferraro, Chairperson of the Life is Good in the Wood 5k announced plans for a goodie bag stuffing party on Monday, April 13. Holding it at City Hall was discussed, but a final decision is pending approval. So far, the race has raised roughly $8000 in sponsorships and $3000 in prizes. Several of the prizes are exceptionally generous and will be raffled off to a pool of all race participants. The race will be held on Friday, April 17.

Sandra Farrell announces a full spectrum CPR class at city hall Thursday, April 9 and Monday, April 13th. Mayor Thom Farrell asked RWC for sponsorship. The members cited their willingness to sponsor future events, but would be unable to disperse funds on such short notice.

The Board Members term is set to end this summer, and Marissa asked for volunteers for the 2015-2016 Board. There will be a vacancy for Hospitality, Director of Programs, Parliamentarian and Treasurer. Meetings are September-May. August first is new calendar year. There is an especial need for a Treasurer, which a new board member could fill right away.

Catherine Scott updated members on Wendi Huntley’s progress on Mopac Bridge Extension. Leah Paulo elaborated on the need for public discussion. Sara Hutson noted the city is accepting comments on the plan

Andrea Sparks is the Executive Director of the National Center for Lost or Exploited Children and gave a fascinating presentation to members about children and Internet safety. She directed members to Netsmartz.org, which has educational programs directed to every age group.
